What is GroundFrog Day?

Background:

A farcical and fun attempt to take the doldrums days of winter, get the jump on Punxsutawney Phil  with a uniquely west coast adaptation of Ground Hog day folklore.

This is the 7th Annual GroundFrog Day Celebration event.  The Ceremony came back downtown in 2011 and Snohomish Slew will again make his prediction at the event Gazebo on Avenue A and First Street.

 

2012 Event Intention:

The Snohomish Chamber's primary mission is again put Snohomish in the National spotlight, entice residents and visitors to take part in our frogfolity and let them share in the spirit of this unique event founded to beat the winter blahs.

 

New in 2012:  Slew on the move...Is it a migration? Is it an invasion?

Keep you eyes poppin for Frogs hoppin in Snohomish. 

 

Event Schedule:

Here is the proposed schedule for Snohomish Slew’s return on January 28, 2012 - 11:00 to 1 p.m., Avenue A

Gazebo.

11:00 a.m.: Entertainment and kid's games at the Ave A gazebo

12:15 a.m.: GroundFrog Day Royalty arrives and greets their subjects.

12:25 p.m.: The Royal proclamation is read revealing the one mortal to receive the power to translate Frogese, the native tongue of Snohomish Slew, our hometown frognosticator extraordinaire.

12:35 p.m. Slew arrives, carried to the stage by his Loyal Frog Handler.

Noon: Slew makes his prediction via the royal interpreter and the crowd is once again amazed and astounded by his ability to forecast the weather for the final 6 weeks of winter in the Great Pacific Northwest.
